Sustainability.

Sustainability is very important at Wylie’s Coffee and we’re constantly working to improve in all areas. Here are some of the things we do currently:

  • Wylies-Coffee_Sustainability-Coffee

All our coffee is high grade and sustainably sourced. We only buy from a high welfare trader who has direct relationships with the wonderful farmers and producers.

  • Wylies-Coffee_Sustainability-Coffee-Packaging

The coffee bags, mail bags and packing tape our coffee beans are sold in are all fully recyclable.

  • Wylies-Coffee_Sustainability-Coffee-Storage

We transport and store our coffee in reusable tubs to reduce paper and cardboard waste.

  • Wylies-Coffee_Sustainability-Coffee-Food-Waste

We aim to limit food waste as much as possible through savvy and concise ordering processes. However, on the rare occasion we do have some food left at the end of the day, we have partnered with Too Good To Go to make sure it all gets taken away to a good home.

  • Wylies-Coffee_Sustainability-Coffee-Milk

We look to offer a variety of dairy alternatively to suit everyone’s diet and taste, while looking to select the options that are the most environmentally friendly. These include oat milk, soy milk, coconut milk and pea milk.

We have made the choice to not stock almond milk for two key reasons:

    1. Environmental: due to the large amounts of water it requires to grow almonds (predominantly in California where 96% of the state is under severe drought conditions) *as of 2022

    2. Health & safety: to remove any risk of cross contamination on the steam wand which could lead to an allergic reaction.

  • Wylies-Coffee_Sustainability-Coffee-Refrigeration

To keep our soft drinks cold, we opted for a ceramic sink lined with ice rather than a commercial fridge. This helps reduce the amount of energy we use and any water collected from the ice we reuse to water our plants! Win-win!

  • Wylies-Coffee_Sustainability-Coffee-Waste

We partner with First Mile for all waste generated at our coffee shop.

General Waste: We love that First Mile ensures a zero landfill policy and all non-recyclable/non-compostable waste is used to generate Green energy that powers UK homes.

Compostable disposables: We’re constantly trying to look at ways to reduce disposable items as much as possible, but the single use items we do offer (cups, lids, stirrers, napkins) are all fully compostable.

Recycling: We make sure brands we stock have the same ethical values as us when it comes to their packaging. With First Mile, all our recycling waste is broken down and reshaped to create brand-new products, such as polyester fabric and carpets, or new plastic bottles and food containers.

Coffee Grounds: Our grounds are stored and collected separately where they are diverted away from landfill and turned into biofuels and essential oils that cut greenhouse emissions.
